ID201 Doorphone used as Emergency Call Point
An Interquartz ID201 slimline Doorphone has found its way into a well-known London landmark; Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath and Putney Lower Common cover an area of 460 hectares in the south west of London and provide a green haven of peace and tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
Among the many features of the commons are nine ponds, a golf course, horse rides, football and rugby pitches and, of course, the world-famous Wimbledon Windmill.
Much of the Commons are also classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and boast a wide variety of flora and fauna. Since the 1970s millions of children have grown up knowing Wimbledon Common through the popular BBC TV show The Wombles.
The Commons are administered by a Board of eight Conservators; three of whom are Government appointed and five are elected every three years by local residents. Their responsibility is to protect the Commons and to ensure they remain the wonderful open space they have been since 1871.
The day to day management of the Common is carried out by the Chief Executive and his staff of 22. The Commons are patrolled by a team of seven “Keepers”, who patrol on foot and on horseback from dawn to dusk every day of the year. The Ranger’s Office is also open 365 days per year between 9am and 5pm. Outside these hours, 24-hour cover is operated by four Duty Officers who are on call for emergencies.
In order to contact the Duty Officer at their home, the Ranger’s Office has now installed an Interquartz ID Doorphone onto their telephone system, purchased from Interquartz distributor Freerose. At the end of each working day, the Ranger’s Office staff program that night’s Duty Officer’s telephone number into the ID Doorphone. Should a visitor to the Common need to summon assistance in an emergency, they can now do so with a single press of a button.
Chief Executive, Gordon Vincent, explained;
We chose the Interquartz ID Doorphone because it offered good value for money for a charity running on a very limited budget. Furthermore, because the 24-hour cover is one of the most important services we provide, we had to be sure that the equipment would do what we needed it to do and the staff at both Interquartz and Freerose went out of their way to ensure that we were not disappointed.
The Interquartz’ ID Doorphone’s robust aluminium case and easy configuration make it an ideal choice for “Help Point” applications such as this, as well as having the capability to operate an electronic or magnetic door lock. Its attractive slim design means that it will not be an eyesore and, with Interquartz’ renowned reliability, it offers true value for money and will need little maintenance for years to come.
The ID Doorphone is compatible with any telephone system that supports analogue extensions, and can even be installed directly onto an analogue telephone (PSTN) line.
